Punta del Este

Today we're going on a tour to Punta del Este .. takes 10 hours, round trip. We started by following the coast road out of Montevideo. We wound our way through the countryside before climbing a hill and stopping at the house (Casapueblo) of the famous artist Carlos Poez Vilaro. A weird multistory white house but really interesting. Lots of his art (Picasso-esk) hung on the walls. From there we went up to Punta Del Este. A lot of foreigners have set up the multi-million dollar beach pads there...for those interested you can rent some of them at US$7,500 per night. Reasonable. From the burbs we went into the city and beach area ... It was not exactly like Montecarlo like the guy who served us lunch the previous day said it would be ... But it was nice and had a delicious Paella for lunch with a chaser of vino and a $10 baguette.

We were wandering the streets having a look around for an outfit that would fax our tour instructions for our trip in the Amazon, but nobody was willing to send a fax outside of their own post code ... weirdo's. So I had to pull rank and go into ABN AMRO and the manager fired the fax away free of charge, no problemo!

The drive back was pretty tiring so it was full of nodding off, head snaps, salivating down the chin, and the odd chortle / snore from some of the other foul cretins on the bus.
